Harrington commits to Greensboro

Next week’s Wyndham Championship will feature one of its best fields in recent memory, including 13 major winners, as players battle to make the top 125 in the FedExCup standings.
Only players ranked among that number are eligible to play in the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup after the regular season finale. The competition should be heated – of the players who rank between Nos. 115-130 in the standings only No. 129 Tiger Woods, who cited family obligations, will be missing.
Camilo Villegas went into the PGA Championship as the bubble boy at No. 125. He missed the cut at Atlanta Athletic Club on Friday.
Padraig Harrington, who has won two British Open titles and one PGA, will be making his Wyndham Championship debut after committing following his second round at the Atlanta Athletic Club. The Irishman, who made the cut at the PGA, ranked 130th entering the season’s final major.
Ernie Els, another three-time major champion, also committed. He ranked 126th in the FedExCup entering the PGA and will be making his first appearance in Greensboro since tying for ninth in 1997. Els missed the cut at the Atlanta Athletic Club.
Two-time U.S. Open champion Retief Goosen, who ranked 105th in the FedExCup standings and had to withdraw from the PGA due to illness, will be making his second appearance at the Wyndham Championship. He tied for 37th in 2003.
Defending FedExCup champion Jim Furyk, who currently ranks 73rd, has also committed. He enters the third round of the PGA one stroke off the lead and will be playing in the Wyndham Championship for the 12th time. Furyk finished second in Greensboro in 1999.
