Norman Disses Tiger

In recent weeks, three prominent names in the sport have done their best Miss Cleo impression to predict the major championship fortunes of Tiger Woods.

Jack Nicklaus said Tiger can still catch his mark. Luke Donald said a new era of golf has begun, but made a clarification to say that it would be foolish to suggest Woods is through as a competitor.

Nick Faldo believes Woods is mentally shot. Nick Price agrees with Faldo.

Apparently, add Presidents Cup captain Greg Norman to the Nicks’ side of the ledger. In an interview with Golf Magazine for its November issue, the magazine reports Norman told them he does not believe Woods will win another major.

“Now there are so many distractions, and people are looking for things that are wrong with Tiger now, so he’s got to deal with that on a day-to-day basis, like every other mortal has to do, right?” Norman is quoted as saying, though with no direct allusion to how many more majors Woods will win. “In our lives, in our business, we all have to be responsible for our actions. It’s very hard for him to have that focus. And the more he shuts people off, the worse it gets.”

How much of this falls under the guise of head games for the matches at Royal Melbourne in November is uncertain, though Norman has never shied away from sharing his opinions.
