South African George Coetzee went from four clear to one behind in a disappointing half-hour at the Alfred Dunhill Championship.
The only member of the Official World Golf Ranking's top 100 in the field looked to be heading towards a maiden European Tour victory on home soil with three holes of his second round to play at Leopard Creek. But Coetzee went into the water on the short seventh - his 16th - fluffed a chip on the next and double-bogeyed again, then failed to get out of a bunker at the ninth.
The 25 year old did salvage a bogey there, but he had gone from 12 under par to seven under and signed for a 71 rather than another score in the mid-sixties.
It left overnight leaders Seve Benson and Jbe Kruger back in front - they had yet to tee off again - along with Kruger's fellow South African Jaco Van Zyl and Chilean Felipe Aguilar.
Aguilar added another birdie and with a 64 set the clubhouse target on nine under.
Kruger leap-frogged over him with an eagle on the second, but bogeyed the next two and so was back into a tie for second with Van Zyl and Benson, who parred his first five holes.
