Following the merger of the English Golf Union and the
English Women’s Golf Association on the 1st January 2012 it has been announced
that John Petrie has been appointed as the Chief Executive of the new
organisation, England Golf.
The decision to appoint John Petrie (pictured left), who was previously Chief
Executive of the English Golf Union, in the role was ratified at the first
meeting of the new Board of England Golf earlier this month.
Talking of his appointment he said, “It is both an honour and a challenge to
have been appointed as Chief Executive of England Golf. I am under no illusions
that there is a huge task ahead bringing two successful companies together to
make one even more successful company. I am fortunate to have excellent staff
from both the EGU and EWGA to help make this happen as well as the support of
the Board and the many volunteers that support the governance of golf.”
Nigel Evans (pictured right) has also been nominated by the Board to be the
first Chairman of England Golf. This position will need to be approved at
England Golf’s Annual General Meeting to be held on 15th February 2012.
Previously the English Golf Union’s Chairman, Nigel was elected in February 2009
and plans to chair the new England Golf Board for a further two years.
