RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) – Designers trying to win the bid to build the first Olympic golf course in more than 100 years are making their final presentations to organizers in Rio de Janeiro.
The designers spent Tuesday and Wednesday trying to convince organizers ahead of the winning announcement, which is expected by the end of the week.
The finalists are: Gary Player Design, Greg Norman Golf Course Design, Hanse Golf Design, Hawtree Ltd., Nicklaus Design, Renaissance Golf, Robert Trent Jones II and Thomson-Perret Golf Course Architects.
The judges include members of the Rio 2016 organizing committee and the International Golf Federation.
Golf made its debut at the second modern Olympics in Paris in 1900 but was dropped after the 1904 St. Louis Games.
