Carlota Ciganda now professional champion of Spain!

Carlota Ciganda has won the Spanish championships at every level since she was a young child and now she has triumphed in the professional category at Talayuela.
Carlota’s spectacular trajectory began over a decade ago when she prevailed as a 10 year old in the Campeonato de España Benjamín played on the Majorcan course of Santa Ponsa when she was the youngest child in the field.
In the year 2000, she imposed herself when she was only two under par but 24 shots ahead of the second placed player, Patricia Mestre! Her consistency has continued over the years.
Later on, she was the Champion of Spain ‘Alevín’ (2001 and 2002), Infantil (2003 and 2004), Cadete (2003, 2004 and 2006), Sub 18 (2006, 2007 and 2008), Junior (2006, 2007 and 2008) and Absoluto (2006, 2007 and 2008): an overwhelming collection of Spanish titles which, along with her international titles such as the 2007 British Amateur Open Championship and the 2004 and 2008 European Amateur Championships, have made Carlota into an icon of Spanish women’s golf.
During her latest win, in Talayuela, with the title of ‘España Profesional’, Carlota Ciganda reproduced her joyful and aggressive game. Her first round of 76 left her in ninth position but she burst into the lead with a second round of 67 and reaffirmed that with a last round of 70 to win by nine shots over Ana Larrañeta and Laura Cabanillas.
Carlota gave an entertaining display, hitting a bunker shot to eight metres on the first hole and making the putt for birdie to move four clear of her rivals, who both made bogeys.
Carlota continued to dominate with birdies on holes four, five, 11 and 12, before collecting three successive bogeys in the pouring rain.
However, Carlota completed the win before telling the Real Federación Española de Golf: “I’m very content. I played well at the start, stayed patient and that gave me security.” She laid out her intentions: “Now, I must play as well as possible in the next tournament.” This has been called the: ‘Philosophy Carlotiana' by her friends in Spain!
