TPC Boston should be ready to go for second leg of playoffs

With The Barclays being shortened to a 54-hole tournament in deference to the pending arrival of Hurricane Irene in New Jersey, the next stop in the FedEx Cup playoffs is also expected to get a taste of the tropical storm.
TPC Boston, home to the Deutsche Bank Championship, is also in the projected path of the remnants of Irene. According to course superintendent Tom Brodeur, though, the facility should be in good shape to host the top-100 in the FedEx Cup points by the middle of next week.
“By Tuesday, we hope to have restored order here,” Brodeur said with a bit of a laugh in a Friday telephone interview.
The forecast for the area as it relates to Irene begins on Saturday afternoon, when some rainfall and winds between 20 and 30 miles per hour come into the area. The real brunt of the storm begins 24 hours later, though, as Brodeur expects about six to eights inches of rain and steady winds of 45 to 60mph, with gusts up to 75mph. It should be over by 8:00pm ET on Sunday, he says.
With the pro-am originally scheduled for Monday at TPC Boston already canceled, Brodeur has up to ten crews available to help his regular staff assess and repair damage.
The primary concern for the course is tree loss, due to erosion or wind damage. Brodeur, though, does not expect standing water to be a problem on the property.
“Big water drains very well here,” Brodeur said. With the exception of an area around the 15th tee, he expects no need to pump water off property faster than it would naturally drain. The course will be saturated with water for the first 24 hours after Irene hits, but standing water should only be a problem within swales in the fairways.
“The greens and tees will be perfect,” he said.
Brodeur sees no reason for the week to go off without a hitch beginning on Tuesday
