All of the names that have surfaced so far in the discussions as to who is most likely to become the next permanent caddie for Tiger Woods have centered on well-known, well-established loopers.
Billy Foster works for Lee Westwood. He’s out.
Tony Navarro worked for Adam Scott. He says he’s in if asked.
Brett Waldman was no with Camilo Villegas and is working on his own game on the Nationwide Tour. He’s a question mark.
But how about a question mark actually taking the job?, he asked. Rex Hoggard is reporting that a new, completely unexpected name might emerge as the caddie for Tiger Woods.
Add Shane Joel to the short list of candidates. Joel, who caddies for Woods’ friend Mark O’Meara, was spotted on the Firestone practice tee last week talking with Woods. A person familiar with the situation said, “if he came (to Ohio) to talk to him, he is his new caddie.”
Joel lives in the Orlando, Fla., area and would be familiar with Woods’ game, having caddied for O’Meara during numerous practice rounds with Woods, including at this year’s Masters.
Woods speaks on Wednesday at Atlanta Athletic Club and is currently out on the course practicing with childhood friend and interim caddie Bryon Bell on the bag.
