Sam Claridge (Harpenden Common, Hertfordshire), Sam Robertshawe (Army, Hampshire, IoW & CI) and Josh White (Chipstead, Surrey), all winners this season, will represent the English Golf Union in the Finnish Amateur – the Erkko Trophy – at Helsinki Golf Club on 11th – 13th August. Claridge, 20, (picture © Tom Ward) a member of the England ‘A’ squad, won the Berkhamsted Trophy in April and reached the quarter finals of the recent English Amateur Championship at Woburn. Last year, he won the Selborne Salver and tied fifth in the Lee Westwood Trophy.
Robertshawe, 20, won the South East of England Links Championship at Royal Cinque Ports earlier this summer and finished equal ninth in the Berkshire Trophy. Equal seventh place came last year in the Darwin Salver when he was also joint 14th in the Berkshire Trophy.
White, 20, captured the Berkshire Trophy in June and is also the Surrey champion. An England ‘A’ squad member, he was a member of the Surrey team that won the English Boys County Championship in 2009, when he was also Surrey champion and third in the McEvoy Trophy.
The Finnish Amateur is played over 54 holes with a cut after two rounds, the leading 36 players and ties going forward to the third and final round.
