Carl Mason, the European Senior Tour’s most successful player, continued the form he showed in last month’s Senior Open Championship Presented by Rolex when play resumed in the first round of the SSE Scottish Senior Open.
After a 3hours 45minutes suspension because of a waterlogged course at Fairmont St Andrews, the 25-time Senior Tour champion was quick out of the blocks, carding a hat-trick of birdies from the third hole to move to the top of the early leaderboard.

Mason finished tied third in the Senior Open Championship at Turnberry three weeks ago and the 1994 Scottish Open winner is looking to win the Senior version of the event for the first time.
American Gerry Norquist, playing in his first season on the Senior Tour, was three under through 13 holes following a hat-trick of birdies after the turn.
Former World Number One Ian Woosnam also made a strong start, with a birdie on the fourth hole followed by an eagle two on the fifth.
Defending champion Barry Lane, who is bidding for a hat-trick of titles, double bogeyed the first hole before carding seven straight pars.
